Designed by celebrated architect Antoine Predock, the Arizona Science Center is a bold composition of form and light nestled in the heart of downtown Phoenix. Completed in 1997, the building blends Predock’s signature sculptural approach with contextual references to the canyons and arroyos of the Southwest.
Architect: Antoine Predock
Completed: 1997
Design Inspiration: Southwest geology, motion, and the integration of technology and nature
Awards: AIA Honor Award and other national recognitions for design excellence
Location: Heritage and Science Park, downtown Phoenix
I photographed the building in crisp winter light, focusing on its powerful concrete masses, intersecting volumes, and the diagonal ramp that slices through the structure like a drawn line. Years later, I had the opportunity to spend a day with Predock while writing and photographing a feature on him for Meta Magazine, an experience that gave me deeper insight into his philosophy and lifelong passion for architecture as a lived journey.
This gallery reflects both my admiration for Predock’s work and my ongoing commitment to documenting architecture that carries a sense of place and purpose.
