Denver Public Library (Central Branch), Denver, CO - Photographed 2015
I photographed the Denver Public Library’s Central Branch in 2015, drawn to its bold postmodern forms and richly layered materials. Designed by Michael Graves in collaboration with Denver firm Anderson Mason Dale Architects, the building was completed in 1995 as an expansion to the original 1950s structure by Burnham Hoyt.
Clad in stone, copper, and stucco, the library’s playful yet monumental design reflects Graves’s signature vocabulary, merging classical references with contemporary expression. Towers, columns, and geometries stack into a civic landmark that anchors the city’s cultural district alongside the Denver Art Museum.
My image captures the library’s distinct architectural language, part fortress, part temple of knowledge, serving as a lasting symbol of public space and imagination in the heart of Denver.
