Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center, Colorado Springs, CO - Photographed 2018
In 2018, I commissioned myself to photograph the Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center, a striking, 75,000 ft² interdisciplinary arts building at Colorado College designed by Antoine Predock. Constructed between 2006 and 2008 and opening in April 2008, the facility brings together visual, performing, media, and dance arts beneath its dramatic copper-clad pyramidal form and central amphitheater.
A model of sustainable design, the Center earned LEED Gold certification in 2009 - Colorado’s first performing arts venue to achieve this honor. Its accolades include:
•2009 AIA Honor Awards (Denver and New Mexico chapters)
•2009 North American Copper in Architecture Award
•2009 AIA BIM Innovation Award
•2009 Colorado Springs Gazette Best Building
•2008 Gold Hard Hat Award for design
I later had the privilege of meeting Predock, interviewing him for Meta Magazine, where we explored his design process, and even touched on his passion for motorcycles. You can read the full feature and view more of my photographs here: Meta Magazine – Inside Predock’s Cornerstone Arts Center
